Amazon has launched its first batch of internet satellites into orbit, marking its entry into the mega constellation market. The United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket lifted off with 27 satellites from Amazon's Project Kuiper. These satellites are expected to reach an altitude of nearly 630 kilometers. Two test satellites were launched in 2023, and significant upgrades have been made in the latest version. The new satellites are coated with a mirror film to diffuse reflected sunlight, reducing impact on astronomical observations. This addresses concerns from stargazers about satellite constellations interfering with observations. Amazon plans to deploy over 3,200 satellites to deliver fast, affordable broadband internet worldwide. This initiative rivals SpaceX's Starlink, which has launched over 8,000 satellites since 2019. Amazon has secured numerous rocket launches for Project Kuiper from various providers.
