China has launched the world's first commercial 10-Gigabit (10G) broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province. This initiative, a collaboration between China Unicom and Huawei, utilizes 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology. It dramatically boosts data transmission across existing fiber-optic cables. Real-world tests achieved download speeds up to 9,834 Mbps and upload speeds reaching 1,008 Mbps, with latency as low as 3 milliseconds. This tenfold improvement over 1G broadband enables high-bandwidth activities like 8K video streaming and VR/AR experiences. The launch positions China ahead in deploying commercial-grade 10G networks. The Hebei deployment serves as a model for future expansion, aligning with China's digital strategy to enhance broadband access and cloud infrastructure.
