Shanghai has become the first megacity in China with complete 5G coverage across all 21 of its metro lines. This upgrade enhances real-time operations and predictive maintenance. It also supports smart urban transit initiatives. Over 80% of Shanghai's metro lines are now upgraded to 5G-Advanced. This enables applications like robotic inspections with 98% accuracy. Remote emergency response management is also improved. With over 83,000 5G base stations and 3.1 million IoT connections, Shanghai leads China's 5G expansion. The metro system now delivers average downlink speeds above 600 Mbps in stations and tunnels, with peak speeds exceeding 1 Gbps. The integration of 5G enables real-time monitoring of train operations and key components. This shifts maintenance from reactive to predictive models. 5G-powered inspection robots have replaced over 80% of manual inspections in some maintenance depots, achieving around 98% accuracy. Beijing is also rapidly deploying 5G, aiming for comprehensive integration across industries by 2027. China surpassed 1 billion 5G connections in 2024, highlighting the technology's rapid adoption. Mobile technologies are projected to contribute $2 trillion to China's economy by 2030.
