Google Enhances Child Safety with AI-Powered Age Detection: New Tools for Parents and Improved Content Filtering

Edited by: an_vilart vilart

Google is rolling out new AI-powered features to enhance the safety of younger users online. The company is implementing machine learning tools to more accurately determine the age of its users, aiming to better protect children from inappropriate content. This system analyzes user behavior, such as videos watched and websites visited, to estimate age, even if a user has provided false information during account creation.

Currently available in the United States, the AI system flags accounts suspected of belonging to users under 18. If flagged, users will receive notifications about content setting changes and options to verify their age through a selfie or official ID. Google is also introducing new parental control tools, including the ability to limit calls and messages during school hours via Family Link, and manage payment cards in their children's Google Wallets. These updates aim to provide a safer online experience for children and more effective parental oversight.
