Honor Magic9 Pro Max

On 4 November 2026, Honor unveiled the global version of its flagship Magic 9 Pro Max in Hong Kong. The Chinese version appeared earlier, on 28 September, in Beijing. The international variant inherited its internals and cameras, but differs in one important respect: the battery has become smaller. This is the first model in the Magic line that sits above the regular Magic 9, and the first Honor smartphone with the ARRI logo on the body itself.

The screen is a 6,8-inch LTPO OLED with a resolution of 1320 × 2868 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. The manufacturer claims a peak brightness of 10 000 nits, but in normal mode (HBM) the display outputs around 2000 nits, so the figure of 10 000 refers to HDR content and strong glare in the sun. The screen supports Dolby Vision. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 on a 2-nm process with two cores up to 5,01 GHz. Image processing is handled by Honor's own H1 chip, manufactured on a 6-nm process.

The camera system is built around three modules of 200 and 50 megapixels. The main sensor of 200 MP has a size of 1/1,28 inches and an aperture of f/1,57. The periscope telephoto lens at 200 MP with a 1/1,4-inch sensor provides 3,5× optical zoom and up to 200× digital zoom. The ultra-wide module is 50 MP. The front camera is 55 MP. The main innovation is the ARRI CINEMA mode: video is recorded in the logarithmic LogC3 curve with 10-bit color and in the ARRI Wide Gamut 3 color space at a resolution of up to 4K and 60 frames per second. 14 ARRI Looks presets are built in, and 87 more color styles are available in the library. It is important to understand: LogC3 support applies to the video mode as a whole, not to a single telephoto lens. The partnership between Honor and ARRI began with the Robot Phone in August.

The main difference of the global version is the battery. In China it is 8800 mAh, while in the international version it is 8000 mAh, that is, 800 mAh less. For China, Honor lists 8800 mAh as the typical capacity and 8600 mAh as the rated capacity, so the real difference may turn out to be smaller than the figure on paper, but this comparison has not yet been verified in tests. Charging remains powerful: 100 W wired and 80 W wireless. For comparison: in the same lineup, the regular Magic 9 has 8000 mAh, while the Magic 9 Super Edition has 11 000 mAh. The Pro Max does not stake its claim on record-breaking battery life, but on cameras and performance.

Compared with its predecessor, the Magic 8 Pro, the battery has grown: the global version of the Magic 8 Pro had 7100 mAh. The body is metal, the thickness is 8,59 mm, the weight is 233 g, and the dimensions are 161,64 × 76,98 mm. Protection complies with the IP68, IP69 and IP69K standards. Out of the box it runs MagicOS 11 on Android 17. Honor promises seven years of updates for Magic flagships, starting with European markets. Memory configurations range from 12/256 GB to 16/1 TB.

Pre-orders have opened in Hong Kong; according to MobiDevices, they will run from 5 to 18 November. Sales in Europe will begin in January 2027: Honor has confirmed a launch in the United Kingdom and France. This timing coincides with the expected release of the Samsung Galaxy S27, so Honor is entering the European market at the same time as its main competitor. Prices for international markets have not yet been announced. In China, the Magic 9 Pro Max costs from 6499 yuan (about 845 euros) for the 12/256 GB version, while the most expensive 16/1 TB configuration is 8499 yuan.

In the same class as the Magic 9 Pro Max are the Find X10 Pro Max, Xiaomi 18 Pro Max and Vivo X500 Pro Max. In terms of performance and cameras, the model is not inferior to these devices, but in battery capacity it loses to the Super Edition from Honor's own lineup. A full review has not yet been published, but the GSMArena editorial team has already received the device for testing and noted its first impressions from the unboxing.

The global version of the Magic 9 Pro Max will suit those for whom cinematic shooting with ARRI LogC3 support, a powerful 2-nm processor and a bright screen are important. At the same time, it is worth bearing in mind the smaller battery — 8000 mAh versus 8800 mAh in China. If you shoot a lot of video far from a power outlet, it is battery life that will become the main question, and it is best to verify it in real-world tests.
