Android 16 is anticipated to launch earlier than usual, bringing several key updates:
Lock Screen Widgets: The return of widgets on the lock screen will allow users to view information such as time, notifications, weather, and stock quotes without unlocking their devices.
Advanced Screen Extension: Enhanced screen extension capabilities will allow users to connect their smartphones to external monitors and customize display settings like text size, icon size, screen position, and refresh rate. This feature aims to provide a more advanced experience than simple mirroring, potentially competing with basic laptops for simple tasks.
The first devices are expected to receive Android 16 in June 2025. More features are expected to be revealed on May 20 at the Google I/O 2025 conference.
