Cannes, France - YouTube announced at the Cannes Lions Festival 2025 it will integrate Google's advanced AI video generation tool, Veo 3, into its Shorts platform.

This move, revealed by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, aims to revolutionize video creation and consumption. Veo 3 represents a significant upgrade, building on the capabilities already used in YouTube's Dream Screen background generation tool.

Shorts has become a crucial part of YouTube's video strategy, averaging over 70 billion views daily since its 2021 launch. YouTube is also collaborating with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to give prominent figures control over their likenesses on the platform.

The integration of Veo 3 into Shorts could transform how historical and fictional characters are depicted in videos. Videos created with Veo 3 have already gone viral, showcasing concepts like historical figures as vloggers.

Mohan highlighted YouTube's role in entertainment and pop culture, calling creators the "startups of Hollywood." He noted they are reshaping the industry and creating new jobs for writers, editors, actors, and producers.

The introduction of Veo 3 into YouTube Shorts marks a major advancement in AI-powered video tools, potentially impacting the creative industry.
