A new AI-based learning system, KI-ALF, developed by researchers in Cologne and Munich, uses a webcam to detect learning difficulties in mathematics.
Designed for inclusive schools, KI-ALF offers personalized support to students and assists teachers. The system analyzes students' eye movements as they solve math problems on a computer screen, identifying areas where they struggle. It then provides targeted support, including instructional videos and customized exercises. The AI interprets eye movements to pinpoint specific mathematical skills needing improvement.
Already in use at Gesamtschule Wulfen in Dorsten, KI-ALF aims to address gaps in basic math skills among students transitioning to secondary school.
The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with approximately 553,000 euros.
