Beijing Hosts First AI-Powered Robot Soccer Match, Prepares for World Humanoid Robot Games

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Beijing witnessed a historic event on June 28, 2025: the first soccer match played entirely by autonomous humanoid robots. The match showcased the potential of artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

Four university teams competed in 3-vs-3 matches, with each robot making real-time decisions independently. Equipped with high-precision visual sensors and complex processing algorithms, the robots demonstrated impressive skills, including ball recognition, strategic positioning, passing, and recovery after falls.

This event served as a prelude to the World Humanoid Robot Games, scheduled for August 15-17, 2025, at the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) and the National Speed Skating Oval (Ice Ribbon). The games will feature sports, performance, and scenario competitions, highlighting the diversity and utility of robot application technologies.

The games will demonstrate how close robots are to achieving human-like capabilities, marking a milestone in robotics and AI development in China.
