Darmstadt, Germany - The Technical University of Darmstadt (TU) has introduced 'Hainer,' a state-of-the-art humanoid robot powered by artificial intelligence. The robot, costing two million euros, stands 1.75 meters tall and weighs 95 kilograms. It features 32 joints, seven cameras, and interchangeable grippers, enabling it to grasp objects and perform complex movements.
Professor Jan Peters, specializing in intelligent autonomous systems, envisions robots like Hainer working independently in hazardous environments or assisting in caregiving roles within five to ten years. TU President Tanja Brühl emphasized the university's commitment to advancing robotics and improving the world through science. While Hainer's movements are currently somewhat clumsy, it can grasp objects and lift heavier items. Researchers are focused on teaching the robot ethics and enhancing its capabilities, acknowledging global competition in this field, particularly from China and the United States.
