100th goal for Brian White: a milestone on the road to the MLS Cup

Edited by: Svitlana Velhush

Brian White scored his hundredth MLS goal, but immediately reminded everyone: personal records are only stepping stones. In the match where Vancouver Whitecaps routed San Diego 4:1, the forward headed in his 100th league goal and at once turned the conversation to the main thing — the fight for the MLS Cup.

White joined Vancouver in 2021 from New York Red Bulls and has since scored 98 goals for the club in all competitions. His hundredth goal in the regular season and playoffs made him the seventeenth player in league history to reach that mark. At the same time, the 30-year-old striker has already racked up 18 goals in the current championship and is in the running in the scoring race.

The victory strengthened the Whitecaps' lead in the West: 58 points and a four-point gap over the nearest challenger. The team set a club record for goals in a season — 67. Young Serb Aleksa Cvetković opened the scoring with his first league goal, Ryan Gauld added a goal and an assist, and Bruno Caicedo completed the rout.

Behind the bare numbers lies a story of perseverance. White went from the draft to the status of a key player, surviving changes of clubs and styles of play. His goals are not random flashes but the result of systematic work: the ability to read passes, accuracy in the air and composure at key moments. Like a craftsman who has spent years honing a single trade, he has finally reached a round number — but has not stopped there.

San Diego, already without a chance of the playoffs, extended their winless run to ten matches. For the Whitecaps, meanwhile, every such result is a step toward the goal White called the main one: "These things are nice, but we want to win the MLS Cup. That is first and foremost on our minds."

White's hundredth goal shows how in MLS personal milestones intertwine with team ambitions. In a league where competition is growing and the lineup of participants is changing, such players become symbols of stability. Two more rounds of the regular season lie ahead — and the question is no longer about records, but whether Vancouver can turn their lead into a long-awaited trophy.
