Meg Remy, also known as U.S. Girls, is set to release her new album, 'Scratch It,' on June 20 via 4AD. The album includes the single 'Bookends,' co-written with Edwin de Goeji, which serves as a tribute to Remy's late friend and former Power Trip frontman, Riley Gale. The song reflects on the concept that death is a universal experience.
The release of 'Bookends' is accompanied by a short film directed by Caity Arthur. The video explores themes of death and absolution, portraying death not as a despairing void, but as a euphoric transition. The visuals include a hallucinatory ensemble cast and a 1960s pop-star performance.
Remy's assembled a Nashville-based band including Dillon Watson on guitar, Jack Lawrence on bass, Domo Donoho on drums, and Jo Schornikow and Tina Norwood on keys. Charlie McCoy also contributed on harmonica. The album 'Scratch It' was recorded live in ten days with minimal overdubs and mixed to tape. The album incorporates various genres, including country, gospel, garage rock, soul, disco, and folk balladry.
