Brazilian director Marianna Brennand has been awarded the Emerging Talent Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her film 'Manas'. The award, part of the Women in Motion initiative by Kering and the Venice Film Festival, celebrates female participation in cinema.

'Manas,' released in 2024, addresses the sensitive topic of sexual exploitation and intrafamily abuse of children on Marajó Island. Brennand expressed that the award is a collective achievement, bringing visibility to Brazilian women in cinema and giving voice to silenced women and children.

The 2025 Women In Motion Emerging Talent Award will be presented to Marianna Brennand during the official Women In Motion dinner at Cannes. The award includes a grant of €50,000 to support the creation of the laureate's second feature project. Brennand is planning her next project, which will continue to explore the theme of the feminine, focusing on the various forms of violence women face. She aims to use her work to shed light on these issues and inspire change.
