French film studio MK2 Films is making a significant impact at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival, running from May 13 to 24, 2025. The studio has six films in competition for the Palme d'Or and twelve films across the Official Selection.
Known for championing female auteurs, MK2 Films highlights a new generation of directors. Three of their competition films are directed by women, including Hafsia Herzi's "La petite dernière" and Carla Simon's "Romeria." "La petite dernière" is a drama about a young woman named Fatima, the youngest daughter in an Algerian immigrant family, grappling with her identity and sexuality. "Romeria" follows Marina's search for her biological family on the Galician coast, uncovering long-buried secrets.
MK2 Films is also involved in heritage cinema, opening Cannes Classics with the restored 4K version of Charlie Chaplin's "The Gold Rush," celebrating its 100th anniversary. The company supports filmmakers creatively and financially, aiming to help them reach a wide global audience, offering services from sales to full financing, tailoring their support to each film's needs.
