NORMAL Trailer (2026) Bob Odenkirk

The film "Normal" (2025) inexplicably flew under the radar for much of the general public. However, we awarded it a very high score and thoroughly enjoyed watching it, which is why we're immediately publishing a review. Gaya is consistently among the first to review new releases and world premieres — quite possibly the very first, as we attend premieres on opening day. Yet, a film of this genre, with such unique presentation, evocative music, and high rating, truly deserves to reach its audience without delay.

First Impressions: From Perplexity to Delight

The Unexpected Gem You Missed: 'Normal' (2025). Normal? Far From It – It's Brilliant!-2

Initially, it's quite unclear what's going on. Then, it becomes rather amusing. Later, it gets a bit boring. But about half an hour into the film, everything completely flips: it's so unusual, unexpected, hilarious, logical, and witty that you'll want to rewind and double-check, "Did I miss something?" Forty minutes in, you're incredibly curious about the ending, and by the hour mark, you're fully invested in the main characters.

What Does It Compare To?

The film bears some resemblance to "Kung Fu Hustle," and also to "The Walking Dead" — but with a distinct comedic and action-packed twist. In parts, it's reminiscent of "Breaking Bad," which is hardly surprising given that Bob Odenkirk, renowned for his roles in "Fargo," "Breaking Bad," and "Better Call Saul," plays the lead.

The film also has similarities to "Money Heist." Ultimately, you'll likely find yourself trying to pinpoint which films or genres it echoes around the 80-minute mark.

Impressive Cast Ensemble

Despite being a Canadian production, the cast is impressive:

  • Bob Odenkirk as Sheriff Ulysses Richardson
  • Lena Headey as Moira
  • Henry Winkler as Mayor Kibner
  • Ryan Allen as Deputy Blaine Anderson
  • Billy MacLellan as Deputy Mike Nelson
  • Brendan Fletcher
  • Jess McLeod
  • Rina Joly
  • Peter Shinkoda

The Plot Setup

Ulysses Richardson arrives in the town of Normal as the interim sheriff. The previous sheriff passed away, and now Ulysses must uncover the truth about what is truly unfolding in this seemingly quiet place.

Verdict

The film emerged as an explosive action movie, packed with sharp humor and featuring a fantastic cast. The action sequences are executed to the highest standard, and the ending didn't disappoint, keeping viewers thoroughly engaged until the very end. Its 84-minute runtime is a godsend; anything longer would have been entirely unnecessary in this particular case.

For its unexpectedness and sheer originality, it almost deserves a perfect 10, as the film feels incredibly fresh and audacious compared to typical genre templates. However, there's quite a bit of gore in the movie, and it was precisely for this reason that we slightly lowered the final score.

Gaya's Rating — 8.5/10

If you're craving a smart action film with dark humor, unexpected twists, and a brilliant performance by Bob Odenkirk, this is undoubtedly a must-watch! 🎬
