Invitation — Russian trailer (Dub, 2026)

In a nutshell, it's a comedy about one spouse drowning the other. Overall, we liked the film, Gaya's rating: 7.1/10

The picture is "very drawn-out" in the first half, but the humor at the end is something else. It is a chamber drama with elements of comedy that will appeal to those who appreciate intellectual dialogue, quality acting, and psychological explorations of human relationships.

"The Invite" is the story of Joe and Angela, whose relationship has long since lost its former spark. Trying to bring passion back into their lives, Angela invites their neighbors over—a striking couple whose apartment regularly echoes with loud moans, hinting at a turbulent private life. But the party does not go according to plan at all. Small talk quickly changes direction when the bold neighbors make a very unusual and shocking proposal.

Genre and atmosphere

If you like the genre that can be described as "living room chatter," this film will definitely be to your taste. And, it must be said, the chatter here is interesting—mostly about sex and relationships. The conversations are conducted quite intellectually, without vulgarity, which makes the film attractive to viewers who value dialogue over action.

Star cast

The film boasts top-tier actors:

Penélope Cruz — a magnificent Spanish actress with incredible charm

Edward Norton — a master of complex psychological characters

Seth Rogen — a well-known comedic actor who adds a touch of lightness

A deep theme beneath a comedic shell

In reality, the film explores an important psychological phenomenon—when one spouse drags the other down with their apathy, pessimism, tediousness, or something else. It is a story about how a partner's negative traits can gradually destroy a relationship from within, and how difficult it is to resist this slow descent.

Pacing and structure

In fairness, it is worth noting that the film feels drawn-out in the first half. Many viewers might find that the action develops too slowly. But closer to the finale, the situation changes radically—it becomes genuinely funny, curious, and engaging.

Deserving special mention is the ending — it is very logical. All plot lines converge, and the viewer gets satisfaction from how skillfully the director tied all the narrative threads together.

Our rating: 7.1/10

"The Invite" is a smart conversational drama with elements of comedy that will appeal to those who appreciate intellectual dialogue, quality acting, and psychologically precise stories about modern relationships. The film requires patience at the beginning but generously rewards the attentive viewer by the finale.

It is precisely for the humor and the well-placed emphasis that our rating is so high.

Recommended for: fans of intimate dramas, dialogue-driven cinema, those interested in the psychology of relationships, and admirers of the star-studded cast.

Furthermore: viewing is mandatory for married couples "over 10".
