Seismic Activity Reported In Campi Flegrei, Italy

Edited by: Tetiana Martynovska 17

An intense seismic activity was recorded in the Campi Flegrei area near Naples, Italy, between June 20 and 21, 2025. The main tremor, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale, struck at 5:00 AM, with its epicenter located between the municipalities of Pozzuoli and Quarto.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that the primary event was followed by a series of aftershocks. At least ten minor tremors were felt in the same area. All the quakes were shallow, and fortunately, no significant damage was reported.

Campi Flegrei, an active volcanic caldera, is known for its seismic and volcanic activity. Recent studies suggest that seismic events in this area are often linked to pressure buildup in an underground geothermal reservoir. Local authorities and experts continue to monitor the seismic activity, urging residents to remain calm and follow official guidelines.
