Nepal Flood: Bridge Collapse Halts Trade, Disrupts Power

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

A devastating flood in Nepal's Rasuwa district, triggered by heavy monsoon rains on July 8, 2025, has caused significant damage and loss of life. The Nepal-China Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi was destroyed, disrupting trade and transport between the two countries.

Authorities reported 18 people missing, including police and Chinese nationals. Rescue efforts are underway, but as of July 9, seven bodies have been recovered. The floodwaters also impacted critical infrastructure, including hydropower projects.

The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project and the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project both suffered damage, halting power generation. The Rasuwa Customs Office yard was also severely affected, and trade is now being rerouted through India, creating logistical challenges.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway has been rendered impassable in sections, hindering rescue operations. The government is coordinating rescue and relief efforts, with the Prime Minister visiting the affected area to assess the situation. An emergency meeting was held to address the crisis.
