Residents in some towns were asked to stay indoors. The level of the Po River in Piedmont approached dangerous levels. Several areas and roads were closed as a result.
More than 100 municipalities declared a state of alert due to concerns about storms, floods, and landslides. Significant restrictions were reported on railway lines between Italy and Switzerland due to flooded tracks.
Tourist areas such as South Tyrol, Lombardy, and Tuscany are also affected. Meteorological warnings were also in effect in the cantons of Valais and Ticino in southern Switzerland.
Parks in Milan were closed due to strong winds. Firefighters repeatedly intervened due to flooding. Strong rainfall was also recorded in Friuli, with winds in Trieste exceeding 120 kilometers per hour.
