Storms in Italy Triggered Floods and Landslides

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

Heavy storms have caused significant damage across Italy, particularly in the Alps and Emilia-Romagna regions. The Governor of Veneto has declared a state of emergency following severe flooding and landslides. The storms, which began on June 15th and intensified on June 16th, brought torrential rain, strong winds, and hail to several areas. In the Emilia-Romagna region, heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding, turning roads into rivers. Strong winds exceeding 100 km/h uprooted trees, and hail storms swept through some areas. The provinces of Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Ravenna, and Ferrara were particularly affected. The Italian fire department worked continuously throughout the night to address the damage. In the Veneto region, landslides isolated some residents and blocked roads. The storm triggered a significant landslide near Cortina, and the SS51 road was closed for several hours due to mud and debris. The storm also caused power outages and damaged vehicles. Authorities are working to assess the damage and provide assistance, with more unstable weather expected in the coming week.
