A Mysterious Pattern in the Fields: New Crop Circle Discovered at King Alfred’s Tower

In early May 2026, a new crop circle appeared in a barley field near the historic King Alfred’s Tower in Somerset, right on the border with Wiltshire. The discovery was first reported on May 8, and by the very next day, drone operators from Stonehenge Dronescapes had released stunning aerial footage that quickly went viral online.

The formation, measuring approximately 75 meters in diameter, is striking in its complexity and symmetry. At its heart lies a large oval "nucleus" surrounded by several smaller circles interconnected by sweeping curves and arcs. These elements combine to form a five-pointed star-like figure, with "ripple-like" branches extending from each point. From the air, the design possesses a distinct sense of depth, resembling a three-dimensional model of an atom or a complex energy system with its central core, orbital paths, and flows that evoke magnetic fields or a torus. Many observers have highlighted its five-fold symmetry—a motif frequently found in nature, tied to plant growth patterns, the golden ratio, and biological forms.

Parallel to the Venus cycle

The location itself appears to be deeply significant. King Alfred’s Tower, an 18th-century landmark built to honor King Alfred the Great, stands as a symbol of unity and the defense of English lands. According to legend, it was on this very ground in the 9th century that the king rallied his troops before a decisive battle. Adding to the symbolism, one of the figure’s "rays" seems to point directly toward the tower.

Crop circle researcher Dr. Horace Drew, also known as "Red Collie," has linked the appearance of this pattern to astronomical cycles, specifically the eight-year cycle of Venus as seen from Earth. In his view, such formations may function as a type of "calendar" or signal, referencing ancient celestial observations similar to those conducted by the Maya at the El Caracol observatory. He also noted the approach of a specific "cycle" and drew potential parallels between this formation and other historical and contemporary figures.

Skeptics, as is tradition, point to the possibility of human craftsmanship, noting that the formation is situated near tractor tramlines which provide easy access. Nevertheless, proponents of "genuine" crop circles emphasize the extraordinary precision of the execution, the absence of damaged stalks, and unique characteristics that are difficult to replicate by hand overnight. While no official scientific findings regarding radioactivity or other anomalies have been released yet, enthusiasts continue to gather data.

This marks the second major formation of the 2026 season. Like many of its predecessors, it has sparked intense debate: is it art, a hoax, a message, or a manifestation of unknown natural forces? While scientists and enthusiasts deconstruct its geometry, one thing remains certain—these figures continue to appear in English fields year after year, forcing us to question the limits of our understanding of the world. Whether they represent a message from space, collective human creativity, or something else entirely, they never fail to capture our attention and stir the imagination.
