In the Zillertal Alps Nature Park, the restoration of the largest alpine floodplain forest has been successfully completed. This significant project involved the construction of a small protective dam to facilitate grazing and secure the area.
Approximately 150 young gray alders were planted to support the natural regeneration of the endangered alder population. This initiative, spanning nearly eight years of planning and preparation, addresses the critical loss of floodplain forests in Tyrol.
The Schwemmalm floodplain forest is a unique conservation area, representing the largest such complex within the protected region. Floodplain forests, among the most biodiverse habitats in Central Europe, are crucial for specialized flora and fauna.
