Petorca's El Palmar to Receive Conservation Status, Protecting Endangered Flora

Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko

After years of collaboration, an application has been finalized to grant conservation status to over 500 hectares of El Palmar de Petorca, Chile, under law 21.600.

This request will soon be submitted to the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service. The area is home to the northernmost population of Chilean palm trees in the Valparaíso Region and over 190 vascular plant species.

The site includes endangered species like the Chilean palm, Drimys winterii (canelo), and Porlieria chilensis (guayacán). Protecting El Palmar is crucial for preserving regional and national biodiversity.
