Uttar Pradesh is preparing for its annual monsoon plantation campaign, scheduled from July 1-7. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure 50 crore saplings are ready for the initiative. The state aims to plant 35 crore trees this year, striving to achieve 20% green cover by 2030.
A key focus is the River Rejuvenation Campaign, involving plantation along the Ganga, Yamuna, and Ghaghara rivers. Parallel planting will also occur along expressways. Silt accumulation in border rivers will be addressed with channelization solutions.
Community engagement is central to the plan, with each village developing a 'Gram Van' (village forest). Regular 'Green Chaupals' will promote sustainable practices. Over 25 lakh housing scheme beneficiaries will receive drumstick saplings for nutrition security.
