A technical file has been presented to establish the Lomas y Tillandsiales Regional Conservation Area (ACR) in Peru. The proposal covers 23,000 hectares in the provinces of Tacna and Jorge Basadre.
The aim is to conserve key ecosystems in the southern coastal region of Peru. The project seeks to protect the lomas and coastal desert ecosystems. These ecosystems are essential for local biodiversity and the water cycle.
These areas are home to over 100 species of flora and 60 species of fauna. They also play a crucial role in water collection, storage, and distribution. If consolidated, Lomas y Tillandsiales would become the second ACR in the Tacna region.
