Brazil's Environmental Parliamentary Front Focuses on Green Tax Reform and Bioeconomy in 2025

The Business Working Group of Brazil's Mixed Environmental Parliamentary Front is actively pursuing its objectives for 2025, emphasizing dialogue between the productive sector and parliament to advance Brazil's ecological transition. Congressman Amom Mandel continues to coordinate the group, prioritizing coherence among parliamentarians with diverse ideologies, highlighting the importance of environmental legislation for market stability and innovation.

Key priorities for 2025 encompass the carbon market, renewable energies, and enhancements to the green tax reform, which aims to stimulate productivity and employment, particularly in environmentally sustainable sectors. The front seeks to reposition Brazil as a leader in global environmental stewardship.

The Working Group is fostering renewed engagement between the public and private sectors, emphasizing the bioeconomy. Mandel advocates for a pragmatic approach to translate technical discussions into tangible actions, underscoring the impact of these initiatives on people's lives. This includes supporting projects with the aim of conserving and restoring at least 5 million hectares of Brazilian forests, contributing to Brazil's efforts to halt and reverse deforestation.

The group also seeks to sequester at least 1 gigaton of CO2 emissions and invest $500 million in initiatives benefiting Indigenous peoples and local communities, with a focus on the Amazon region.

The World Bank approved a US$1 billion project to support Brazil's efforts to improve tax and financial stability, promote sustainable finance and environmental protection, and enhance social inclusion.

The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will take place on June 3-5 at the National Congress Palace in Brasília.

Innovation and Bioeconomy Center

The Brazilian federal government is investing in bioeconomy structures in Belém, the capital of Pará, to create both economic opportunities and a social commitment to more equitable and sustainable development.

The WCEF2025 will take place at Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, from 13 to 14 May 2025.

The National Climate Change Fund (FNMC) will start financing the acquisition of heavy-duty vehicles powered by biomethane.

The Brazil Restoration & Bioeconomy Finance Coalition (BRB Finance Coalition) aims to mobilize $10 billion by 2030 to accelerate the conservation and restoration of Brazil's forests.

The BRB Finance Coalition seeks to support projects with the aim of restoring at least 5 million hectares of Brazilian forests, sequester at least 1 gigaton of CO2 emissions, and invest $500 million in initiatives benefiting Indigenous peoples and local communities, with a focus on the Amazon region.

The World Bank will keep offering timely technical assistance to the federal government, which includes providing a tax simulation tool for the excise tax (imposto seletivo).
