Just a few years ago, the phrase "I built a full-fledged web app over the weekend" sounded like an exaggeration or an outright lie. Turning an idea into a working product required months of work, a team of developers, a designer and enormous budgets. But in 2024–2026, the rules of the game changed forever. Onto the stage stepped Lovable — a platform that proved that building complex software now requires not years of studying syntax, but a clear product vision and good taste.
This is the story of how Swedish entrepreneurs Anton Osika, together with Fabian Hedin, created a tool that democratized website development and helped cement the global trend of "vibe coding" (coding by feel, through prompts).
Who is behind Lovable?
The company's founders are a well-matched duo who received a prestigious European award for their innovations KTH Innovation Award.
- Anton Osika is a co-founder and AI researcher.Anton is a recognized practitioner in the IT community. Before Lovable, he created the legendary open-source project GPT-Engineer, which instantly became a hit on GitHub. It was precisely Osika's deep understanding of how large language models (LLMs) work with code that became the foundation of Lovable's intelligent "engine." At the company, Anton is responsible for strategy and the development of its AI logic, and he is its main public face.
- Fabian Hedin is a co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO).Fabian started coding at the age of 10 (building servers for Minecraft), and later became a leading front-end developer in Sweden. He and Anton had already worked well together at the startup Depict. At Lovable, Hedin is responsible for technological architecture, design and flawless UI/UX. If Anton created the platform's "brain," then Fabian made sure that the AI generated not just working code, but beautiful, modern interfaces from the very first prompt.
How Lovable was created: from insight to breakthrough
In 2023, the world was swept by a wave of AI assistants for code. Dozens of tools appeared that helped developers write individual functions. But Anton Osika noticed a fundamental problem: neural networks were already writing code quite well, yet creating a cohesive, beautiful and convenient product remained a difficult task.
If you asked an AI to write an app, it might produce a working but visually raw and poorly structured result. Anton realized that the gap between "working code" and "a product you want to use" is enormous.
That is how the idea for Lovable was born. Anton and his partner Fabian Hedin (Fabian Hedin) decided to create not just a "smart code editor" but a full-fledged environment for building products. The company was founded in Stockholm, and its roots go back to GPT-Engineer in 2023.
There were three key insights:
- Focus on design and UI/UX. Lovable had to generate not just a working interface, but a beautiful one, from the very first prompt.
- Full-stack out of the box. The platform gained an integration with Supabase — an open-source alternative to Firebase. This allowed the AI not only to draw buttons but also to help create databases, set up authentication and write backend logic.
- Iterativeness. Instead of asking the AI to write everything at once, Lovable learned to understand context, make targeted edits and develop the project's architecture step by step.
The public launch of the updated platform under the Lovable brand took place in October–November 2024 — at a moment when new generations of language models had noticeably improved the quality of code generation. This made the platform a powerful "engine" for rapid app creation, and the product began to grow rapidly.
A phenomenal success and a new reality
Lovable's success was not merely fast — it was explosive and continues to accelerate.
- Record ARR growth: In less than eight months after the public launch, the platform crossed the mark of $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), showing one of the fastest growth rates among SaaS companies in history. But the growth did not stop there: by November 2025, Lovable passed the milestone of $200 million ARR, by March 2026 it had reached $400 million, and by September 2026 annual revenue had exceeded $600 million.
- Investments and valuation: In July 2025 the company raised $200 million at a valuation of $1,8 billion. In December 2025 Lovable closed a Series B round of $330 million at a valuation of $6,6 billion from CapitalG and Menlo Ventures. And in August 2026 the company made a real breakthrough, closing a colossal round Series C of $400 million at a valuation of $13,3 billion, doubling its value in just seven months.
- Thanks to the company's explosive growth, Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin entered the Forbes billionaires list.
- A community of creators: Lovable's most important achievement is its people. Thousands of marketers, designers, entrepreneurs and specialists without a deep technical background began creating their own SaaS products, internal business tools and MVPs for startups.
Lovable became one of the main symbols of the "Vibe Coding"movement. The term itself was coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy in February 2025. He describes a new approach: you don't write code by hand, you "feel" the product. You converse with the AI, point out errors, change colors and logic, working like an art director or product manager, while the AI takes on the routine of syntax.
Why is this inspiring?
Lovable's story is not just the success of another startup. It is a manifesto of a new era.
Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin showed that the barrier to entry into creating technology has dropped sharply. Now the key skill is not only the ability to write code, but also "taste". The ability to understand what the user needs, how the interface should look and how the logic should work — that is what increasingly distinguishes the creator from the consumer.
Lovable has proven: if you have an idea that can make someone's life better, you no longer have to wait until you save up money for a development team. You can open the platform, describe your dream and start building it right now.
We live in a unique time when an idea, clothed in precise words, can turn into a working digital product faster. And Lovable is one of the brightest bridges between your imagination and reality.
