Sicily is making it easier than ever to explore its cultural and scenic treasures by train this spring! Trenitalia, in collaboration with the Sicilian Region, is introducing new routes and stops, perfect for both tourists and locals alike. These enhancements are timed to coincide with the Easter holidays and April 25th celebrations, offering convenient access to the island's most captivating destinations.
Agrigento: Italian Capital of Culture 2025Starting April 14th, two new trains will directly connect Agrigento Centrale with Palermo's "Falcone e Borsellino" Airport, bypassing Palermo Centrale and utilizing the Palermo railway bypass. This increased service caters to the expected surge in tourism as Agrigento prepares to be the Italian Capital of Culture in 2025, while also improving transportation within the Palermo metropolitan area. *Note: These trains will not operate on April 18, 2025.*
Barocco Line, Taormina Line & Cefalù Line EnhancementsFrom April 25th, holiday travel becomes even more appealing with the return of the Taormina Line, linking Letojanni and Taormina to Catania, Siracusa, and Caltagirone. The Barocco Line also returns, offering connections between Siracusa and Donnafugata, with stops at Fontane Bianche, Avola, Noto, Pozzallo, Scicli, Modica, and Ragusa, allowing travelers to discover the wonders of the Val di Noto. The Cefalù Line is also expanding from April 25th, providing more frequent connections between Palermo, the "Falcone e Borsellino" Airport, and Cefalù, all within the comfort of Sicily's new regional trains. During holidays, there are 28 additional connections compared to the regular schedule, including two direct trains between Palermo Airport and Milazzo, the gateway to the Aeolian Islands. There are also 11 extra connections between Cefalù and Palermo Centrale/Palermo Notarbartolo/Palermo Airport on Saturdays and 4 on weekdays between Cefalù and Palermo Centrale.
New Stops on the Messina - S. Agata di Militello LineSince March 30th, on holidays, Regional trains 12858, 12873, 12905, 12908, 12913, and 22084 now also stop at Oliveri-Tindari, Falcone, and Novara-Montalbano-Furnari on the Messina Centrale - S. Agata di Militello line. Additionally, from April 7th to May 31st, trains R 5355, R 5359, and R 5358 will stop at Gioiosa Marea to accommodate travel needs in the Tyrrhenian area during the closure of State Road 113 near Capo Calavà. With these new routes and stops, exploring Sicily by train has never been easier or more appealing!
