Marathon activities were launched in Dahab, South Sinai, on Friday, aiming to promote tourism. The event was organized by the Youth and Sports Directorate under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Khaled Mabrouk, Governor of South Sinai.
The marathon activities started from the Ritaj area to the Laguna area. There was an intensive presence of police personnel, ambulance services, and civil protection.
Ahmed El-Garni, the marathon organizer, stated that organizing the marathon aims to promote and support tourism. He emphasized that Sinai is safe, pointing out that the marathon route was chosen to highlight the beautiful areas in the city, its diverse nature, and the desert that distinguishes it from other tourist cities worldwide.
The marathon organizer clarified that the race was held in two distances, one of 10 kilometers and the other of 6 kilometers. 100 contestants from Egyptians and foreigners from Russia, England, Hungary, Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Estonia participated.
He emphasized that this race is organized annually to support tourism. That is why the Laguna area was chosen to be the endpoint, as it is one of the best diving spots in the world, famous for its unique marine life after the appearance of the coral reefs close to humans for days.
Participants expressed their happiness with this marathon, which shows Egypt's interest in sports. They confirmed that Dahab is a magical city with wonderful weather that reflects the uniqueness of Sinai with its charming views.
The local unity of the city provided a Bedouin breakfast for the participants in the Laguna area, following the awarding of prizes to the winners.
The launch of the marathon activities was attended by Major General Mustafa Abdeen, head of Dahab city, and Abdel Aziz Daoud, deputy head of the city, and Walid Zahran, director of the Youth and Sports Center in Dahab, and Islam Sadiq, Dahab Youth Administration, and a group of executive and security leaders in the city.
