Sometimes the most amusing journey begins not with a ticket costing thousands of dollars, but with a small two-seater plane and a very bold idea.
Two YouTubers decided to fly to Cessna 150 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — an airport considered one of the busiest in the world. Against the backdrop of huge Boeings and Airbuses, their tiny propeller plane looked almost like a bicycle that had accidentally wandered onto a highway.
To enter Atlanta's airspace, the pilots had to wait about 30 minutes for clearance from air traffic controllers. But in the end they really were let through, after which the Cessna calmly landed and rolled along the taxiways next to the huge passenger airliners.
And the most unexpected thing became clear after landing.
For this entire aviation attraction, the travellers paid only $39 in airport fees. At the same time, Atlanta's official tariffs really do provide for a very small base fee for light aircraft — for aircraft up to 12 500 pounds, the separate landing fee is only a few dollars, while the rest of the sum depends on servicing and additional charges.
It makes for an almost perfect travel story: to fly a two-seater Cessna into an airport that handles tens of millions of passengers, to jostle a little among the gigantic airliners — and to pay for it less than a taxi ride from the airport to the city centre sometimes costs.
Now the phrase "budget travel" has officially reached a new level.
