In June 2025, the French Ministry of National Education implemented specific measures to ensure the safety of students and educational staff during an exceptional heatwave. Temperatures reached record levels, exceeding 40°C in some regions.
Schools were advised to adapt their organization, prioritizing cooler spaces and reducing or suspending physical activities during peak heat. For the Baccalaureate exams, adjustments included allowing candidates access to water and breaks. Exam schedules were also modified to avoid the hottest periods.
Approximately 200 public schools were partially or fully closed between June 30 and July 2, 2025, particularly in the most affected areas. Parents were encouraged to keep children at home when possible. Health authorities emphasized the importance of staying hydrated, cooling down, and limiting physical exertion during the heatwave.
