France to Implement 'Right to Disconnect' for Students in Digital Education Spaces

Edited by: Olga N

France is set to implement a 'right to disconnect' for students, aiming to limit access to digital education platforms during evening hours. Education Minister Elisabeth Borne announced the initiative, targeting platforms like Pronote, which manages grades and teacher feedback. The goal is to promote a healthy balance and reduce screen time for students. The measure, recommended by the Commission Écrans, will apply to all digital tools used for communication between schools, students, and families. Specifically, updates on grades and assignments will be restricted between 8 PM and 7 AM. This initiative aligns with the '10 Days Without Screens' challenge, an annual educational program promoting mindful screen usage. Furthermore, the Minister confirmed the upcoming nationwide ban on mobile phones in middle schools. This is another step in the broader effort to help children disconnect from screens and encourage a more balanced lifestyle.
