President Trump has signed an executive order mandating the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into schools. The goal is to enhance educational outcomes and improve teacher performance across the nation.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has been given 90 days to determine how federal funding for AI initiatives can boost educational resources. This includes instructional materials, tutoring programs, and college/career advising services.
McMahon also has 120 days to explore how AI can aid teachers by reducing administrative tasks and improving training. The order aims to equip teachers with the skills to teach AI in computer science courses, leaving the specific AI tools open-ended.
Many school districts are already experimenting with AI, such as the Los Angeles district using AI to communicate with non-English speaking families. The initiative also includes ongoing AI education for adults to ensure workforce readiness.
A task force of government agency heads will assist McMahon, aiming to integrate AI early in education and foster innovation. This initiative seeks to solidify America's leadership in the AI-driven future.
