Car collectors are gearing up for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bid on what is believed to be the most expensive Porsche in history. The iconic 1969 Porsche 917K, once owned by Hollywood legend Steve McQueen and currently in the possession of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, will be auctioned at the Mecum Kissimmee auction on January 18.

This stunning vehicle is the highlight of this year's auction, which features over 4,500 cars. Seinfeld acquired the Porsche in 2001 and has invested millions in renovations to restore it to its original 'Le Mans' condition. The car, chassis No. 917-022, boasts a striking Gulf blue and orange exterior paired with a black and red interior.

In a video statement, Seinfeld expressed his admiration for Porsche's journey, stating, 'I love the story of how they started so small and grew so quickly.' He described the 917K as a 'moment car,' representing a pivotal time in Porsche's history.

Beyond its impressive ownership, this Porsche is steeped in film history, having starred in McQueen's 1971 movie 'Le Mans,' which showcased the legendary sports car race. John Kraman, a Mecum Auctions commentator, highlighted the car's remarkable pedigree: 'It's set to become the highest value car Mecum has ever sold, and the highest-ever-value Porsche in history.'
