Gen Z Turns to AI for Career Advice as Manager Support Falls Short

A recent report by Intoo and Workforce Intelligence reveals a growing dissatisfaction among employees regarding career development support from their managers, with Gen Z workers feeling the most neglected. Many young professionals believe their managers are too busy or lack the skills to guide their career growth, leading nearly half (47%) to turn to AI tools like ChatGPT for better career advice.

The study highlights that 62% of Gen Z workers feel that meaningful career discussions with their managers are impossible due to time constraints. Additionally, employees cite other barriers, such as managers prioritizing their own careers (47%), lacking knowledge about career development (46%), or simply not caring about it (35%). This lack of support is pushing many to consider leaving their jobs, with 44% of Gen Z employees planning to switch employers due to inadequate career growth opportunities.

One of the key solutions proposed in the report is a stronger focus on Learning and Development (L&D) programs. While 80% of employees believe high-quality L&D can boost job satisfaction and engagement, only 22% of employees rate their company’s offerings as excellent. Among Gen Z workers, 97% consider career coaching essential, yet many feel their employers fall short in providing adequate resources.

The findings emphasize the need for organizations to invest in leadership training and equip managers with the skills to guide employees’ career development. Without these changes, companies risk losing top talent to competitors who prioritize professional growth.
