The Liberec Botanical Garden in the Czech Republic has been recognized for its significant collection of carnivorous plants, earning a spot on the national collection list. This prestigious designation comes with a commitment to preserving and studying these unique species.

The garden boasts a diverse collection, including pitcher plants, sundews, and Venus flytraps, representing various regions like the southeastern United States, Mexico, Venezuela, and the Indo-Malay region. Their collection of Nepenthes clipeat, a critically endangered species found only on Mount Kelam in Indonesian Borneo, is particularly noteworthy.

Beyond showcasing these fascinating plants, the garden is actively involved in conservation efforts. This year, they have launched a program to protect the critically endangered Czech sundew, a species native to the Czech Republic. The program involves collecting seeds and cultivating the plant to ensure its survival.

The garden also recognizes the educational value of carnivorous plants, especially for children. They are developing educational programs for elementary schools to introduce these captivating creatures and their role in the ecosystem.
