Georgia Court Cancels Hearing in Trump Election Subversion Case

A Georgia appeals court has canceled a hearing scheduled for December 5 regarding the state's election subversion case involving Donald Trump and several associates. The court's order, released on November 18, 2024, stated that 'the oral argument ... is hereby canceled until further order of this Court.' No explanation was provided.

The case, initiated by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, involves charges of a racketeering enterprise aimed at overturning the 2020 election results in Georgia. Alongside Trump, several attorneys and GOP officials, including Jeff Clark, Mark Meadows, and Rudy Giuliani, are implicated.

As Trump prepares to resume the presidency, the future of the case remains uncertain. State prosecutors are not restricted by federal policies concerning charges against a sitting president, but legal experts suggest that proceedings against Trump may differ from those against an ordinary citizen.

Additionally, the case has faced delays due to ongoing ethical complaints by Trump's co-defendants against Willis, who has been accused of inappropriately involving attorney Nathan Wade in her team while in a personal relationship with him.

Meanwhile, special counsel Jack Smith is concluding two federal criminal cases against Trump. The only criminal conviction Trump will have faced before taking office is the Manhattan case related to falsifying business records to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Sentencing in that case has also been postponed as Judge Juan Merchan and prosecutors determine the next steps.
