Mass Casualties in Sudan as Rapid Support Forces Attack Hospital and Civilians

Khartoum, January 26 — At least 68 individuals were killed and 19 others injured following a shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher, North Darfur. This incident was reported by the Sudanese Doctors Network, which described the attack as a massacre targeting patients and their companions.

The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher confirmed that the attack resulted in the complete destruction of the hospital's emergency department, rendering it non-operational. The governor of North Darfur, Minni Arko Minnawi, condemned the assault, emphasizing that the targeted department was the sole provider of healthcare services in the area.

Earlier on the same day, an RSF attack on Jebel Hilla village in North Darfur led to the deaths of at least 18 civilians and injuries to five others. Ibrahim Khatir, director-general of the state's health department, denounced the RSF for what he termed an organized targeting of civilians, calling for international accountability.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has resulted in over 27,000 deaths and displaced more than 15 million people, according to international organizations.
