The 27th Global Conference of TCI Network, held in Chihuahua, concluded on October 10, 2024, with a strong call for global collaboration as a key tool to address future economic and technological challenges.
Merete Daniel Nielsen, president of TCI Network, emphasized the importance of collaborative futures as a driver for innovation and competitiveness. She highlighted the need to foster clusters—groups of companies sharing objectives and resources—to enhance resilient and sustainable economies, particularly in response to challenges like the use of artificial intelligence and the nearshoring phenomenon.
Nielsen also pointed out the necessity of promoting strong collaboration policies that enable private and public initiatives, as well as academia, to spur economic development and industry growth.
“Frankly, strong policies can be in place, but no one takes the ball. No one is doing anything,” she criticized at the event's closing. She underscored Chihuahua as the epicenter of clusters in Mexico and a model for good practices in generating these coalitions.
This year's TCI Network global conference brought together over 30 speakers from more than 20 countries and nearly 300 attendees from invited clusters, highlighting the significant role of various sectors, including agri-food, automotive, energy, and beverages.
Notable figures included Italian-American economist Mariana Mazzucato, who discussed the role of public policies in driving innovation, warning of the risks associated with innovation policies that exacerbate inequalities.
Rebeca Hwang, an expert in artificial intelligence, analyzed the impact of AI on industrial ecosystems and future employment. A recurring theme in various panels was the role of clusters in Latin America and how they can enhance collaboration to address challenges such as digital transition, sustainability, and inclusion.
