Romanian President Klaus Iohannis stated on Monday, February 10th, his intention to prevent a political crisis in the country and will hold consultations in this regard. The President aims to avoid political instability before the elections.
Iohannis, who is of German ethnicity, has served as president since 2014 and was re-elected for a second term in 2019.
Deputies in Parliament initiated impeachment proceedings against Iohannis after two previous attempts by opposition groups failed. The Romanian Parliament will vote on the impeachment motion in the coming days.
Following the impeachment attempt, accusations have arisen regarding Iohannis's involvement in the electoral process. Iohannis has dismissed these accusations, stating that he will formally begin campaigning on February 12th.
Iohannis emphasized the importance of Romanian national companies in this situation, stating that the companies preparing for the elections should present their programs in this regard.
