Arab States Reject Palestinian Displacement Amid U.S. Proposal

On February 1, 2025, Arab nations convened in Cairo for a ministerial meeting, where they unanimously rejected the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip under any circumstances. This decision follows a proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that Jordan and Egypt accept displaced Gazans.

The statement issued by Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and the Arab League emphasized their opposition to the expulsion, demolition of homes, annexation of land, or any form of displacement of Palestinians from their land.

This meeting occurred shortly after Trump expressed confidence that both Jordan and Egypt would agree to accept displaced people from Gaza, despite contrary opinions. He highlighted the substantial U.S. aid provided to both nations as a factor in their potential cooperation.

The five countries welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and expressed their intent to collaborate with the Trump administration to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, adhering to a two-state solution and aiming to resolve regional conflicts.

Additionally, they underscored the necessity of maintaining the ceasefire to ensure humanitarian aid access across Gaza and called for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. The final communiqué also stressed the importance of enabling the Palestinian Authority to resume its functions in Gaza as part of the occupied Palestinian territories, alongside the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
