Escalating Conflict: Israel Launches Airstrikes in Lebanon Amid Ongoing Gaza War

On November 10, 2024, Israel intensified its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, coinciding with its ongoing conflict in Gaza. Lebanese officials reported that Israeli airstrikes resulted in at least 23 fatalities, including three children, and six injuries in the mountainous region of Almat, approximately 15 kilometers east of Byblos. The targeted building reportedly housed internally displaced individuals from the Bekaa Valley.

Rescue operations are currently underway in the affected area. Local media indicated that 35 refugees from various families were sheltering in the struck building. Additionally, in a separate airstrike on the city of Adloun in southern Lebanon, three rescue workers were killed, leading the Lebanese Ministry of Health to condemn the attack as a 'war crime.'

Hezbollah has been launching rocket attacks against Israel for over a year, purportedly in support of Hamas, which initiated hostilities against Israel on October 7, 2023. Both groups are designated as terrorist organizations by numerous countries.

In a related development, Israeli forces conducted a new wave of airstrikes on Beirut, specifically targeting the southern suburbs, prompting evacuation orders for residents. The independent Famine Review Committee of global food security experts has warned that urgent action is required to prevent famine in northern Gaza, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention to alleviate the dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the month-long military siege.
