In Mexico, prominent figures Esquivel, Ortiz, and Batres, known for their ties to the government, announced their participation in the upcoming 2025 electoral process. This election will also include the selection of more than 800 judges and magistrates.
This development follows a judicial reform enacted by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in mid-September, shortly before the end of his term (2018-2024). The reform notably reduced the number of Supreme Court justices from 11 to 9.
