Foreign Smartphone Sales Decline in China Amid Market Growth

BEIJING, Sept 25 - Sales of foreign-branded smartphones, including Apple Inc's iPhone, in China fell 12.7% in August year-on-year, according to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).

During the month, sales of foreign-branded phones decreased to 1.87 million units, down from 2.142 million a year earlier. In contrast, overall phone sales in China increased by 26.7% from the previous year, reaching 24.05 million handsets.

This decline in foreign smartphone sales occurs despite the overall growth in the market, highlighting potential challenges for international brands in the competitive Chinese landscape.
