Seaspan Partners with KVH for LEO Connectivity

Seaspan Corporation, a leading independent containership lessor, has signed a significant agreement to equip its fleet with OneWeb's advanced low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology from KVH Industries. This partnership marks a pivotal step in Seaspan's mission to provide shore-like internet connectivity at sea, enhancing its digital transformation strategy and existing LEO services.

As the first major containership operator to adopt LEO technologies through this collaboration, Seaspan aims to bolster its fleet's data connectivity infrastructure. This initiative will enable high-bandwidth applications, including cloud-based software solutions that were previously unfeasible in maritime environments.

Garret Wong, Seaspan's Vice President of Information Technology, emphasized that this collaboration is aligned with their goal of delivering a superior communication experience across their fleet, ultimately improving efficiency, safety, and seafarer welfare. Adrian Alb, Senior Manager of IT Operations, noted that LEO satellite technologies offer unprecedented reliability and speed, further strengthening Seaspan's satellite communications.

Chad Impey, Senior Vice President for Global Sales at KVH, expressed pride in supporting Seaspan's deployment of the OneWeb service, contributing to a multi-orbit, multi-channel network solution. This integration of LEO technology underscores Seaspan's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies in modern maritime operations.
