Norway has reached a historic milestone in electric vehicle (EV) sales, with 88.9% of new cars sold being fully electric. This figure represents a significant increase from 82% in the previous year, as reported by the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV).
Out of 128,691 newly registered vehicles last year, 114,400 were electric, marking the highest share in any major automotive market. Nine out of ten new cars sold in Norway were fully electric, moving the country closer to its goal of having only electric vehicles on the roads by 2025.
Despite being a major oil and gas producer, Norway is committed to achieving zero emissions for all new car sales by 2025, a decade ahead of the European Union's target. The rise in EV sales has been supported by various incentives, including tax exemptions and access to bus lanes.
Tesla leads the EV market in Norway with a 19% share, followed by Volkswagen, Toyota, Volvo, and BMW.
