Ford Launches EV Battery Production in Romania

Ford Otosan has initiated series production of electric vehicle batteries in Romania, marking a significant milestone for the country. The batteries will power the electric models Puma Gen E, Tourneo Courier, and Transit Courier.

Initially, these batteries were to be imported from Hungary. The production facility in Craiova is equipped with automated stations operated by robots and cobots, as well as manual stations managed by human workers.

The new assembly line occupies over 4,000 square meters and is fully integrated into existing manufacturing processes. This initiative is part of a €490 million investment announced in 2022.

Ford Otosan Romania is also producing combustion engine versions of the same models, with the Puma being among the best-selling Ford vehicles in Europe. The factory operates in three shifts and employs over 6,600 workers.

First deliveries of the electric models are expected in spring 2025, playing a crucial role in Ford's electrification strategy across Europe.
