AI-Generated Lo-Fi Music Channels Surge on YouTube

A new trend in music is emerging as AI-generated lo-fi channels gain popularity on YouTube. One channel, named 'what is ?', launched in September 2024, has amassed over 130,000 subscribers.

Music influencer Derrick Gee raised concerns about the authenticity of the channel, suggesting that its content may be entirely AI-generated using a tool called Suno. The channel's most viewed video, titled 'sip', has received over two million views, yet none of the tracks feature credited artists.

Gee noted that a comment on an earlier video hinted at the AI nature of the music, which was liked by the channel's creator. Despite the lack of transparency, YouTube does not prohibit monetizing AI-generated content, indicating that this trend may continue to grow.

As tutorials on creating lo-fi music with AI tools proliferate, the platform could soon see an influx of similar channels, raising questions about the future of music production and artist recognition.
