Henk Lategan Leads Dakar Rally 2025 After 10 Stages

Henk Lategan, the reigning South African Cross Country Champion, along with navigator Brett Cummings, has reclaimed the lead in the 2025 Dakar Rally, one of the most challenging off-road events globally, taking place in Saudi Arabia.

In the 10th stage of the rally, Lategan and Cummings, driving their Toyota Gazoo Racing Hilux, finished 11th for the second consecutive day. They completed the 120-kilometer timed section between Haradh and Shubaytah in a remarkable two hours, 15 minutes, and 54 seconds, outperforming Yazeed Al Rajhi and German navigator Timo Gottschalk by 14 and a half minutes.

Al Rajhi and Gottschalk, who had held the overnight lead, crossed the finish line in 27th place, causing them to drop to second overall, trailing Lategan and Cummings by two minutes and 27 seconds. The stage was ultimately won by Spaniards Nani Roma and Alex Haro, who drove a Ford M-Sport vehicle.
