Trina Solar Sets New Record with 25.44% Efficiency in Solar Panels

On January 7, 2025, Trina Solar, a leading Chinese photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer, announced a groundbreaking achievement in solar technology by attaining a power conversion efficiency of 25.44% in its n-type fully passivated heterojunction (HJT) solar panel. This result, verified by the CalLab at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, marks a new world record for large-area crystalline silicon solar panels.

The latest innovation surpasses the previous record of 25.40%, previously held by Longi's back contact modules. Trina Solar's achievement represents the company's 30th world record in solar efficiency, positioning it as a leader in the PV industry.

The record-breaking panel was developed at Trina's National Key Laboratory of PV Science and Technology in China. It incorporates advanced technologies, including light-trapping structures, ultra-dense encapsulation, and low-resistance interconnections, which contribute to its exceptional optical and electrical performance. The panel utilizes industrial-grade phosphorus-doped n-type silicon wafers measuring 210 mm x 105 mm.

Gao Jifan, CEO and chairman of Trina, stated, "This record is a testament to our relentless focus on research and innovation. We will continue to invest in the development of passivated contact cells and modules to maintain our leadership in solar technology." This commitment to innovation is evident as Trina has set multiple world records in recent months, including a 27.08% efficiency for an n-type fully passivated HJT device.

The advancements in HJT technology represent a significant shift in solar energy solutions, offering a high-efficiency alternative to traditional TOPCon and PERC technologies. As the demand for renewable energy sources grows, such innovations could play a crucial role in enhancing solar panel efficiency, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable energy future.
